ICELAND RETREAT
South Coast & Golden Circle
ONLY 2 ROOMS LEFT!
February 15-19, 2024
Join Whole Image Wellness on our 2024 Adventure Retreat to Iceland, the land of ice and fire! We will explore glaciers, diamond beaches, and spectacular waterfalls, and hopefully catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, on this 5-day, 4-night privately guided tour through the South Coast and Golden Circle. Every detail has been planned to make this an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime adventure full of magic, history, and wonder!
The Retreat
This retreat is a guided tour in a private vehicle with an expert, English-speaking guide, arranged in conjunction with Terranova, an award-winning tour company with 45+ years experience. The tour will allow you to see all the highlights you would expect of Iceland, while giving you time to relax your mind and body through daily guided meditations and two yoga practices.
What to Expect
Each day of the tour will involve driving, sightseeing, eating, and relaxing at your hotel. Your hostess, Angelique, will lead you on a guided meditation on the longer drives. Though you are visiting Iceland in winter, the temperatures are typically between 33 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average of 6-9 inches of snow for the month of February. Because our visit is later in the winter season, there will be more daylight, about 7 hours per day. A packing list will be provided prior to travel.
The Tour
Day 1:
Your memorable Icelandic adventure begins the very moment you arrive at Keflavík Airport. You are being picked up by your private driver and will make your way through the beautiful landscape towards the capital region. On the way, you will stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for a 2-hour visit to take a dip in the geothermal hot springs.
Driving Distance: Approximately 30 miles.
Overnight stay in Reykjavik.
Day 2:
Today we start our way south, we will visit a couple of Icelands’ most scenic highlights. Starting with Seljalandsfoss, a majestic
waterfall where you will even be able to walk behind on a surrounding path.
Next, we head to Skógar where we will see the waterfall Skógarfoss, one of the highest in Iceland, there you also have the option to visit the interesting Skógar Folk Museum. As we approach Vík village we stop at the famous black sand beach “Reynisfjara” for a walk.
Afterwards we continue our drive across the
Eldhraun lava field until we reach Kirkjubæjarklaustur, our area
of accommodatin for the next two nights.
Driving Distance: Approximately 160 miles.
Overnight in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area – 2 nights
Day 3
This is a day with views of two of the country’s most remarkable landscapes. We start with a visit to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, one of the most spectacular sights in Iceland. Enormous icebergs constantly break off the glacier into the lagoon, melting slowly as they drift towards the sea nearby. Here we will take time to walk around and explore the amazing landscape, including the Diamond beach. If we are lucky we might even see some of the seals that frequently visit the shores.
Later on we will be picked up for our next adventure: the Vatnajökull Ice cave exploration, where we will visit an ice cave
and marvel at the blue light captured by the glacier.
After this magnificient visit we will head back to our hotel for a second night.
Driving Distance: Approximately 150 miles.
Second overnight in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area
Day 4:
On your way back to Reykjavik today, you will explore the world-famous Golden Circle. A popular route for viewing some of the
best-known sightseeing spots of Iceland. Starting with Gullfoss, we visit Iceland ́s probably most famous waterfall. After visiting this remarkable site we continue our drive
to the Geysir area where the hot spring Strokkur ejects its water column high into the air every 5–10 minutes and where numer-
ous small springs boil and bubble.
Then we are on to Thingvellir, a historical site where the Icelandic parliament was founded in the 10th century. It is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List and considered one of the geological wonders of the world where you will see astonishing fissures and lava fields.
We will also visit Laugarvatn Fontana and Experience geothermal energy first hand. Watch as they dig out a pot of fresh bread from the hot black sand. Guests are offered to taste the bread, served hot from the ground with Icelandic butter.
After finishing the Golden circle, we head back to the capital for our last night in Iceland.
Driving Distance: Approximately 230 miles.
